Day 67 - 17th May - Beginning On A New Pathway

Today i began to  think about how i can display my outcome in the show and i felt that using a shelf of a bookcase would just be far too simplistic and cliche so i thought that id take inspiration from a figure within my project that many people have connected with, this being the rock creature with the idea being that i would create a hand or hands to hold my piece as to draw more attention to it but equally to make my presentation far more dimensional and interesting

So i began to create this hand intended to stand apart from the wall by first creating a wire structure upon which to build later on, using the thicker wire for structural support and the thinner knitting wire to fill the surface area and tie it all together.
I faced issues here with manipulating the thicker wire into the more delicate areas as it tended to become to stiff to bend when it came to a smaller amount to work with. I worked around this by only using the thicker wire when necessary and tending to use the thinner wire more commonly.
After the hand had been attatched to the base i found that it would be far too top heavy to support its weight so i created a series of wire supports that i knitted into the back of the hand and secures again to the base for further structural support

From here i will mod-rock the surface of this as to give me a surface reminiscent of the stone that im using as the inspiration.
